San Diego is one of the state’s largest and most modern cities. Its warm sunny climate has attracted all sorts of people, including surfers, artists, businessmen, and many more, who all call the city home. Being close to Hollywood, it is also home to many existing and aspiring stars and actors.
But did you know that even animals in the city have gotten the Hollywood bug? In fact, there are many animals in San Diego who have already appeared on TV! This is all thanks to one of the city’s best attractions, the San Diego Zoo.
The San Diego Zoo is famous for being one of the largest and most modern zoos in the world. Housing over 800 species composed of over 4,000 animals, it is a sanctuary and habitat for all sorts of creatures. This makes the zoo a perfect venue for residents, and tourists, who love animals.
But the zoo is also an icon in pop culture, and many of its animals have been stars in movies, on television, and other media. In the movie Citizen Kane, the private zoo at Xanadu is actually the San Diego Zoo, which is also the location for the long-running TV documentary, Zoorama. Both Citizen Kane and Zoorama featured not just the location, but the animals within as well. The zoo is also featured in the 1966 album of The Beach Boys, which shows photos from various locations in the zoo. And the first ever YouTube video shot was done in the San Diego Zoo, which showed the animals and the zoo premises.
The animals of the San Diego Zoo that have truly taken the spotlight in Hollywood. This is thanks to Joan Embery, who, in an effort to raise awareness for animal conservation, has brought animals from the zoo to various talk shows, such as The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Joan talked about the animals from the zoo, showcased what they can do, and explained facts about the animals and animal conservation.
