Tube bird feeders are given this name for the obvious reason; they are a tube shaped bird feeder that makes use of this unique design to offer a little something different to the birds that come to eat. The cylindrical shape makes it harder for a pest to latch on to it if they are going to try to steal seeds, or whatever it is you choose to feed, because they have nothing to grab onto. This means you lose less feed to the squirrels, chipmunks or other rodents who otherwise might see the bird feeder as a free meal. As well these kinds of feeders are more likely to bring you the smaller birds, so if you have a preference between smaller birds or larger birds that may be a deciding factor on whether you want this type of bird feeder or not.

Theses tube bird feeders can be a variety of sizes and so hold different amounts of food. But that is not why they attract the smaller birds as opposed to the larger ones. The reason for this is the size of the perches. These feeders tend to have perches up the sides of the tube which allow the birds to eat at different levels on the feeders. This is unlike the platform bird feeders where they all eat on the tray at the bottom. With these there is a tray to catch falling seed, but the birds can eat while sitting on a perch anywhere on the feeder. This means that you must keep the bird feeder full to allow the perches to be useful places for them to eat from. They can also eat from the tray, which may allow for some larger birds to hop on, but as very little will fall it is better to count on this type of bird feeder being for smaller birds.

Therefore if this is the type of bird feeder you want to use you will need to understand that you will not be seeing any jays, doves, cardinals, grackles or other large birds eating from it. If on the other hand you like chickadees, finches or nuthatches then you will be happy with this feeder. Tube bird feeders can hold a variety of birdseeds from the small Niger seeds to the much larger sunflower seeds. Check before you make your purchase because some will come with different sized holes for the use of certain types of seeds. You will also need to know what the birds in your area prefer to eat.

Iguanas are one of the most common exotic pets. If you’re considering getting one of these lizards, you should know a few things beforehand. Here are a few things you need to consider when buying iguana pets.

Once you’ve made the decision to buy an ig, you should start looking for an enclosure. It’s best to have the enclosure setup before you bring him home. This will give you a chance to make sure the humidity and heat is adjusted well enough. This is especially important when getting a younger ig.

After you’ve got the enclosure, you need to decide where you want to get your iguana from. You’ll have to choose between a pet store and adoption from a rescue shelter. You should know that pet stores generally don’t give iguana pets the best care.

The igs are usually very stressed, and the employees may even give you invalid information about their proper care. If you want the best chance of getting a healthy pet, you should consider adoption. The rescuers generally take very good care of iguana pets.

Once you’ve decided where you want to get your ig from, you’re ready to pick one out. You should make sure you check the iguana out thoroughly before you take him home. If you’re buying a younger iguana, it’s important that he’s very energetic. An immature iguana that rarely moves around is in all likelihood sick. Older ones are usually less active, but can still be healthy.

It’s also a good idea to check for parasites. Mites are some of the most common parasites. You can check for an infestation by looking closely at the iguana’s scales. Mites will appear as small specks that are moving around.

Another common problem with iguana pets is dry gangrene. This condition causes symptoms such as blackened tail tips and toes. However, some iguanas naturally have black patterns, so you shouldn’t get this confused with dry gangrene.

When a cat starts scratching, it is cause for concern, constant scratching can mean fleas. Fleas are more than a mere discomfort for you pet, they are a serious issue that needs to be dealt with before they cause health issues for your cat as well as issues for you and your family.

It’s important to note that when you actually see the fleas on your cat, their life is almost over. They spend most of their lives in your carpet or furniture as eggs and larvae before they every land on your pet. When they are in these stages of life, they are next to impossible to kill, and can stay in a state of suspended animation for up to two months making the controlling of them even harder for you.

If your cat has allergic dermatitis caused by flea bites, you will notice that the scratching is elevated and may be accompanied by chewing of the bites as well. This type of severe reaction can lead to loose of fur and may need additional medical treatment in addition to the elimination of the fleas themselves.

Flea control is important even if your cat is not allergic to them. Fleas can cause health issues for cats too including anemia from the loss of blood, tapeworms (fleas eat the eggs and transmit them to other animals) and skin infections from the bites caused by fleas. Any one of these flea related health issues can have dire consequences for your pet.

Now that we have established how important flea control is for both you and your cat, it is time to address the many options that are available to you. If your cat has not yet acquired fleas, then the use of powders and dips can be a step in preventing them.

Flea collars can be very effective at maintaining flea control and are quite useful used in conjunction with powders, dips or sprays. The most effective means of flea control are spot on liquids that are applied to the back of the cat’s neck and rid the animal of not only fleas, but, quite often, ticks and tapeworms as well in one easy treatment that takes only seconds.

When it comes to the environment, there are also several options for flea control. Flea bombs can kill fleas in carpets and bedding, though careful washing and vacuuming will help greatly in this endeavor also. For outside use, yard sprays can be quite effective.

Because flea treatments are in fact medications, it is important to apply them exactly as the manufacture suggests. If the directions are not followed, it could lead to an overdose of medications and a sick cat or the fleas not being irradiated and the problem being ongoing for you pet.

Stop those fleas from bugging your pet. Get moving and do your part to ensure a healthy and happy member of your family.

It is needless to explain the importance of a pet to anyone who owns one. Like we humans pets too require regular care in order to remain healthy and active. Natural remedies have the power to heal all manners of diseases in pets and can help them cope with their general physical complications.

A few natural remedies are discussed here which may help the pet owners to treat their pets minor problems.

Urinary tract infection is a common problem in pets like cats and dogs. The main reason behind this is because they have the habit of holding urine in their bladder for a long time. The prime natural remedy is to teach dogs how to use a particular place in a bathroom for urinating. You can also take them for a walk in a gap of 2-3 hours and make them release urine naturally.

Apart from antibiotics, pets can be given homeopathic remedies like berberis, cantharis, uva ursi or a combination of these herbal medicines to treat the urinary tract infection. You can also give them citrus fruits like oranges to treat the infection.

Formation of gas is a common problem for the pets. Homeopathic medicines like carbo veg of 200-potency can help cure their discomfort.

Some times pets [mostly dogs] suffer from ear mites. In this situation an herbal oil combination of almond and vitamin E should be massaged on the inside of a pets ear. When the pet starts shaking his/her head that means the mites have been smothered. You can wipe the mites off with a cotton ball.

The pets suffering from arthritis problem must walk at least 20 minutes regularly in the morning. In the winter season the pet should be given a soft bed to sleep on; it protects the pet from cold as well as from the hard floor.

In case a pet develops asthma [cats are prone to develop asthma] installation of a humidifier will help him/her to stay fit.

If a dog develops foul odor in his/her mouth it is the signal of plaque formation. Give the pet a small apple piece or feed him/her a raw carrot. If the problem still persists consult your vet doctor; your pet may require thorough de-worming.

It is better not to feed the pet when you are about to take him/her for a car ride. The front seat is ideal for the pet as it gives him/her a nice view of the outer environs. Put your pet right next to where you are sitting. It makes the pet comfortable and secured. Pets usually vomit when travelling. As a precautionary measure you can give your pet an anti- vomit tablet an hour before the journey.

Introduction:

Since your cockatiel spend a lot of time in its camp, it’s important that you choose a camp sensation who will make your pet comfortable and secure.

Steps

Step One
For the bird is important to have plenty of room for moving inside. So you should find a cage large enough enabling your bird to spread its wings without any effort or hitting the cages sides.

Step Two
Find a square cage which provides the bird safeness and the opportunity to nest in the corners.

Step Three
Avoid bird cages that are rounded where bars bend to the gathering at the center – the toes or the tip of bird are getting caught in this task.

Step Four
If you want a cage that could be easy to clean and looking nice, you should look for a cage with plastic bars.

Step Five
If you consider buying a block bird cage with welded wires that will be the less expensive option. But you should know that in this case you must use vinegar and water for cleaning the bird cage and removing all the excessive zinc to prevent the bird poisoning.

Step Six
Make sure bars of the cage are not more than 3 / 4 of an inch distant in order to avoid your birds head to be stuck between the bars.

Step Seven
Bird Cage door should be big enough so you may stick your hand, with the bird perched on it, inside the cage as it is not necessary your bird to hang down.

Step Eight
Bird cage is good to be equipped with several perches and toys to keep your bird busy and having entertainment. For the purpose of that the cage height should be at least 16 inches for establishing two levels for the perches.

Step Nine
We advise you to find a bird cage that is wider than high cage because birds are used to pass most of their time on the ground floor.

Step Ten
It is more comfortable for your cockatiel and of course more pleasant for the eye if the bird cage is provided with a grid on the bottom for keeping the bird away from its droppings.

Tips & Warnings
Place the bird cage in occupied room where people pass along regularly, as cockatiels are used to be in the middle of a gang.
Make sure the bird cage is placed out of direct sunlight and any drafts or smokes.

Bird watching is a very relaxing activity. Many people go into bird watching not just to see and observe their favorite birds but also to get rid of stress. According to studies, birdwatchers show less signs of strains and stress compared to those people who sit inside the room and watch TV or tinker with their computers. The fact that bird watching takes the person outdoor and let him or her commune with nature helps that person fight stress better compared to his or her counterparts. If you are one of those people who are leading sedentary indoor lives, doing some bird watching will greatly help you stay fit and healthy.

Getting Ready For Bird Watching

There are at least two basic things that you will need when you want to go bird watching. First, you will need your binoculars and second you will need a hat. A bird watching hat is just as important as the binoculars because this will protect you from the heat of the sun. Note that the damage in the ozone layer of your planet is so great that being exposed to the direct heat of the sun is now considered hazardous. In recent years, cases of skin cancers due to the damaging ultraviolet rays of the sun have increased considerably thus we should never take things for granted when we go into the sun. It doesnt matter if we only get exposed to the sun once in a while; you still need to protect yourself from being directly exposed to the sun.

When choosing a bird watching hat, you need to consider the size, shape and color of the hat. Choose a wide brim hat over those dainty looking hats. Wide brim hats that shade your face are effective in protecting your face from the damaging effects of the sun. A hat that is made of thick cloth material can be a lot cooler compared to bird watching hats that are made of leather and other types of materials. Furthermore, hats that are made of cloth are easier to manage compared to those hats that are made up of more rigid materials. Note that the rigid materials of your hat can be quite inconvenient especially when you are straining to take a better view of your favorite bird.

The color of your bird watching hat is very important. Although bright colored bird watching hats can be quite attractive, they are not really suitable for bird watching. Bright colored hats make you stick out from your hiding place. Instead of using bright colored hats, try some of those earth colored hats. Brown bird watching hats in particular are very helpful when you want to blend into the bushes.

Proper regular maintenance involves so much more than just filling a fishpond with water, attaching a filter to it and bringing in some fish. Outdoor ponds may be the perfect spot for insects like mosquitoes to thrive in as well as a perfect habitat for salamanders and frogs. Herons may decide that they love the fish in your pond. Plus, blooming algae may begin to take over, dimming the views of the fish.

Maintaining an Outdoor Fish Pond To maintain a fish pond located outdoors, you will need black cotton thread in a fine gauge, a small floating ball and a water chemistry kit for tests.

Keep Ice from Forming In the winter, you will need to keep ice from solidly forming across the surface by floating a ball on top of the water. This will enable exchange of gases. Do not pound ice to break it as the shock may hurt over-wintering fish at the bottom.

Use a Floating Ring Use a floating ring to keep fish food that you have distributed until the fish finish eating it. Periodically watch fish to be sure all food is eaten in five to ten minutes. If there is food leftover, you may be over feeding your fish. With the fish maturing and the seasons changing, this can vary. It is a good idea to adjust food amounts when you need to. One time each day is adequate in the winter as fish are not as active during this time. In months which are warmer, feeding fish two times each day is a good idea, one time in the evening when there are cooler temperatures and one time in the morning.

Reduce Algae Blooms To reduce the possibility of developing blooming algae and to increase the efficiency of your biological filters, you should often clean debris from the trap of your filter. Next, you will need to take a measurement of the nitrite levels in your water before you add plants or fish, water hardness, alkalinity and pH. You will need to do this after you add the plants and one time after fish has been added. For healthy plants and fish, you want these four factors to be balanced.

Balanced PH Soil Use For potting water plants, use soil that has a balanced pH. Use gravel to top potted plant soil in order to keep fish from stirring up dirt in the water as they dig up plants.

Pond Repair When repairing a pond, drain it just below leaks for repairs. If there is a deeper leak than the fish can comfortably swim, move fish to ponds temporarily as repairs are made. In ponds made of cement, keep in mind that attempting to fix the leak in cement is less practical than using a vinyl liner.

If you have never had the pleasure of owning a female dog that has puppies, you are in for some fun and some hard work. If you think the mama dog is going to go all of the work, you are absolutely wrong! She will more than likely do her part unless she has some unforeseen complications, but there will still be plenty of work left over for you to help her with.

The birthing process is an adventure all on its own. Some females dogs go through the entire thing without making a sound, but others can wail when the pups come out and if you love your mama dog it will break your heart to see her suffer. If you make it through this process without any complications or losing any pups you will have done good. There will be a mess to clean up from here on out. It is not so bad the first several weeks until the pups begin you urinate and other things on their own, then it will be a constant battle to keep their bedding clean.

Making sure all of the pups get nursed equally will also be something you will more than likely have to supervise if it is a large litter, especially if your mama dog is small and has more than four or five pups. They have to nurse every four hours or so and it happens all through the night. Your mama dog will eat two or three times more than normal and this means more trips outside! Don’t be surprised if you are outside at two or three in the morning! She will need to be fed a good brand of puppy chow to help her stay in good health while she nurses. It adds extra nutrients to her diet.

Keeping your puppies warm is also a big deal. You can not cover them up with a blanket because they move around too much and could suffocate if they can not get out. This means you will have to keep the room they are in very warm especially if it is during the winter. Some people recommend up to eighty degrees. If you need extra heat in the room, a quartz infrared heater might be the most helpful because they warm a room evenly and do not get hot to the touch on the outside.

However, no matter how much trouble you have to go through to help your mama dog and the pups along, by the time they reach about four weeks old, you will then begin to feel the joy! Their eyes and ears will be open and they begin to play and run around. It is so much fun to watch them. You might have a very difficult time letting them go when it comes time to find them new homes and do not be surprised if you want to keep every one of them!

Dave the Funky Shoulder Monkey is quite simply a toy monkey that sits on your shoulder, but there is far more to this new electronic ape than meets the eye. Many toy stores have been searching for the next toy craze. A team of toy developers in the UK invented this cuddly robot monkey; little did they know at the time how popular he would turn out to be! He has already been named by major toy retailers in the UK, Toys R Us and Hamleys, as one of the top sellers this Christmas and there has also been significant interest from Toys R Us in the United States.

The Dave the Funky Shoulder Monkey design is based on a real-life Capuchin monkey and he can be attached to clothing by means of a shoulder strap so he is able to perch jauntily on your shoulder without falling off. His movements, sounds and mannerisms are operated using a small cordless remote control that can easily be concealed in the hand or in your pocket. Thanks to some clever and sophisticated micro-robotics, this cheeky monkey can display a realistic range of sounds and behaviours just like a real monkey and this is what makes him stand out from many of the other robot pet toys on the market.

Dave the Funky Shoulder Monkey has several different modes accessed using various buttons on the simple to operate remote control, including Conversation Mode, Greeting Mode, Puppet Mode and Action Mode. Each mode offers a different range of characteristics and behaviours – he can laugh, cry, burp, fart, wave and even, being a monkey, scratch himself. This makes him the centre of attention, who can resist the sight of an unusual monkey sat on someone’s shoulder waving and farting! His realistic sounds and movements are a source of fascination and hilarity for children and adults alike and this is why Dave the Cheeky Monkey will be the number one toy this Christmas.

This interactive monkey toy has become so sought after that the manufacturers have had to open another factory in an attempt to keep up with demand from toy stores. Make sure you buy Dave the Funky Shoulder Monkey early to avoid disappointment!
